An exclusive report from Fast Company magazine has confirmed one of the biggest updates for the iPhone 12 Pro. It describes the capabilities of Sony’s new LiDAR sensor. The source says that after a lot of planning, the technology will appear in the flagship Pro iPhone models that the company is set to announce this fall.
Smartphones will get the same Sony depth camera that Apple added to the 2020 iPad Pro, released in March. The rear depth camera will enhance AF sharpness, improve portrait mode, and make AR apps more realistic.
In other words, the iPhone 12 Pro models will be able to deliver results that are almost on par with the best DSLR cameras.
The LiDAR sensor should also improve video quality, as the technology can track the depth of objects or objects as they move in the frame.
Another important aspect of LiDAR is that the sensor can enhance augmented reality applications. According to the source, iPhone applications with augmented reality will be able to “put digital images in layers of real images seen through the camera lens.”
With the addition of LiDAR, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max could be the best smartphones for capturing photos and videos. However, to check this, you need to wait for the release of the device, which will most likely happen in October.
