How To Speed Up Working With Large Video Files

Most of the new videos are filmed with gadgets such as smartphones. Modern phones allow you to shoot clips with excellent quality, while they are always at your fingertips. The process of recording video itself has become easier, however, to share the result of shooting one smartphone may not be enough.

This is influenced by the large size of the resulting video files, or the wrong format. You may want to reduce the file size so that it is easier to send it to colleagues or to speed up the upload of videos to YouTube or another video hosting. Also, editing long videos on the phone can be inconvenient and time-consuming. As a result, the best solution would be to transfer the video file from your phone to your desktop device for further work with it.
It can be difficult to know where to start when working with large video files. In this article, we have put together some useful information to help you simplify and speed up this process.

Here Are Some Tips For Working With Large Videos:

1. Choose the Most Suitable File Type

A codec is a special program that is used to encode or compress data streams for storage, playback, and video editing on a variety of platforms. You may have heard about the h.264 codec or have already worked with it. This codec creates MP4 video files, which usually provide the best quality with the smallest file size. Because of this, MP4 is very popular with various social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Also, this file type is suitable for video messaging.

2. Pay Attention to the Video Resolution

The video resolution determines the size in height and width. Higher resolution videos will significantly increase the file size. As you can imagine, a video with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (1080p) will have a larger file size than a video with a resolution of 1280 x 720 (720p).

Don’t record the entire screen unless you really need to, or use zoom and pan when editing video. This way you can zoom out the video while keeping the viewer’s attention focused on a specific part of the screen. 720p and 1080p videos are fine for most situations.

3. Audio Can be Compressed Too

Sometimes audio can affect file size, although in most cases recording devices and software compresses the audio to avoid creating large files. Also, it is very rare for uncompressed audio to have an audible meaning. After you’ve finished editing your video, make sure the audio has been compressed.

4. Cut off Unnecessary

If you want to work with long video files more flexible and faster, but still cannot afford to compress their quality, the best option is to trim them. You can split a large video file into several smaller parts that are easier to process.

Most videos are made up of small clips that are trimmed and combined during the editing phase. This will help you learn how to create different video sequences. In short, there are many advantages to trimming large video files.

5. Increase the Capabilities of Your Device

If you plan on working a lot with video files, consider upgrading your system. The powerful processor can shorten video processing time and enable your video editing software to run faster. For most tasks, an i5 or i7 processor will do. Other important points that can affect the speed of working with voluminous videos are the amount of RAM, the total space on the hard disk, the presence of a more modern video card.
